At the Mata Vaishno Devi temple in northern India, there was a stampede between people who wanted to enter the new year by praying. Authorities reported that 12 people lost their lives and 13 people were injured, according to initial determinations. President of India Rashtrapati Bhavan, on his social media account, stated that after the stampede at the Mata Vaishno Devi temple, he was very sorry for the loss of life and was disturbed by the incident. Bhavan said: "I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery for the injured." Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the other hand, said that they are in contact with the authorities, expressing his condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured to recover.
After the stampede, a high-level investigation was launched.
Mata Vaishno Devi is known as the most revered Hindu temple and people visit the temple frequently to pray.

A similar incident occurred in 2016 in India, where 24 people died in a stampede in a temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
